Advice pages
It is not possible to offer personal immigration advice through this website. The editor is a barrister and Bar Council professional rules prevent barristers from giving advice directly to the public on immigration law.
The information and commentary on the law on this web site is provided free of charge for information purposes only. Every reasonable effort is made to make the information and commentary accurate and up to date at the date each item is published, but no responsibility for its accuracy and correctness, or for any consequences of relying on it, is assumed by the author. The information and commentary does not, and is not intended to, amount to legal advice to any person on a specific case or matter. You are strongly advised to obtain specific, personal advice from a lawyer about your case or matter and not to rely on the information or comments on this site.
That said, the following posts offer very generalised guidance on certain specific issues:
Spouses: proving a genuine relationship
Spouses: certificates of approval
Spouses: validity of overseas marriages
Spouses: challenging age based refusals
Maintenance and accommodation without recourse to public funds (see also third party support)
No return rule: re-entry ban for illegal immigrants (link to all posts)
Legacy cases (link to all posts)
Long residence rules (7 year, 10 year, 14 year) (post on public interest exclusion)
European Community law applications
Some immigration applications are very straightforward and a lawyer would be superfluous. In other situations, a lawyer can be very helpful indeed, or even essential. In all cases, a good immigration lawyer will usually be able to tell you something you didn’t know or about upcoming changes to the law. See the finding a lawyer page for some guidance on this.
